Harry Styles, Nicki Minaj, Billy Eilish, and Lil Nas X were also noted.
On August 28, the MTV VMA 2022 awards ceremony took place in the United States. Taylor Swift won the main Video of the Year category: her 10-minute video “All Too Well” outperformed Doja Cat, Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, and Lil Nas X.
Taylor Swift wins the main award for the third time: in 2015 she won with the video “Bad Blood”, and in 2019 – with “You Need To Calm Down”. In addition to Video of the Year, this year she took home two more MTV VMA 2022 statuettes – Best Long Video and Best Direction, also for All Too Well.
Swift could have won the ceremony if not for Jack Harlow, who won in four categories at once. His song “First Class” became the “Hit of the Summer” at the MTV VMA 2022, and the track “Industry Baby” with Lil Nas X was recognized as the “Best Duet”. The music video for “Industry Baby” also received Best Production Design and Visual Effects awards.
Thus, Lil Nas X, like Taylor Swift, won in three categories. Three statuettes were also claimed by Harry Styles: “Harry’s House” won the album of the year at the MTV VMA 2022, “As It Was” – “Best Pop Video” and “Best Cinematography”. “Do We Have a Problem?” Nicki Minaj was named the best hip-hop video, and the rapper also received a special Vanguard Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.
Bad Bunny left with just one award, but an important one – “Artist of the Year” according to the MTV VMA 2022. The Puerto Rican rapper managed to leave behind Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, Lil Nas X and Lizzo. In turn, Lizzo won in the category “Best Video with a Social Message” – with the clip “About Damn Time”. BTS was named Group of the Year for the fourth year in a row.
Billie Eilish won Song of the Year at the 2022 MTV VMAs with her hit “Happier Than Ever” and Doja Cat won Best Choreography for “Woman.”
The Red Hot Chili Peppers won the 2022 MTV VMAs for “Best Rock Video” (“Black Summer”), Maneskin for “Best Alternative Video” (“I Wanna Be Your Slave”), The Weeknd for “Best R&B- video” (“Out of Time”). Blackpink’s Lisa Manoban’s “LALISA” won the Best K-Pop Video at the MTV VMA 2022, while Blackpink received the statuette for Best Virtual Performance.
