SVS Sb 2000 Pro vs Pb 2000 Pro

Short Description

SVS SB 2000 Pro

The SB-2000 Pro, like the more expensive SB-3000, contains solutions that have a significant impact on improving efficiency, thus directly affecting the quality of the bass range. The basis of the tested design is a class D amplifier, and the amplification used by the engineers is called the Sledge STA-550D. This efficient design, taking up little space inside the subwoofer, has a high output current generated by MOSFET transistors.

The pulsed power supply system, consisting of a large battery of parallel connected electrolytic capacitors, which store the current, is also responsible for the high capabilities of the amplifier. The system ensures high current efficiency of the supply path, which is also characterized by significantly reduced impedance,

SVS PB 2000 Pro

Breathtaking output and subterranean low-frequency extension down to 16 Hz with astonishing detail and accuracy. PB-2000 Pro features a 12-inch high-excursion SVS driver and 550 watts RMS, 1,500+ watts peak power Sledge STA-550D amplifier with fully discrete MOSFET output. Harnessing the massive power while ensuring unerring control and room-energizing bass response is a 50 MHz Analog Devices Audio DSP. PB-2000 Pro also features the SVS subwoofer smartphone app for convenient control of volume, DSP functions, custom presets, and more.

Excerpt from the test report:

“… As usual with SVS, the SVS 2000 Proline also offers two versions: While the SVS SB 2000 Pro has a compact, closed housing, the bass reflex version SVS PB 2000 Pro provides even more thanks to its larger housing volume and bass reflex ports Pressure in the lowest registers Both the driver and the active module are identical in both versions. The newly developed 12″ woofer drivers with 250 mm membranes have technologies from the expensive SVS models, such as a heavy-duty, double-layer 2” voice coil, an extremely rigid aluminum-polypropylene cone, and a particularly powerful magnetic drive from two ferrite rings. Together with the 550-watt digital power amplifier used (1500-watt peak), enormous levels and undistorted playback down to the very lowest registers are possible. With dimensions of about 37 x 36 x 36 centimeters, the SVS SB 2000 Pro is quite handy and can be placed without any problems, the SVS PB 2000 Pro with a housing size of approx. 53 x 44 x 57 centimeters needs a little more space. Both housings are robustly manufactured and come in a sleek, functional ash-black finish. A high-gloss black version of the SB is also available for an extra charge. A fabric front cover is included with both models.

… In the laboratory test, both woofers achieve an incredibly lower limit frequency of 18 Hertz and enormous levels, with the bass reflex version having a little more dynamic reserves. In addition, the SVS PB 2000 Pro delivers a clear peak at 20 Hertz, which can be “ironed out” with the help of the equalizer if this becomes too much. In general, the equalizers allow a sensitive correction of the sound performance in the listening room, very comfortably and calmly from the sofa. In the listening test, both woofers impress with their impressive power in the lower ranges and deliver precise bass impulses with sufficient dynamic reserve seven in larger listening rooms. The SVS PB 2000 Pro tends to offer a little more reserves and power, the strengths of the closed SVS SB 2000 Pro lie more in its crisp, bone-dry playing style…”

Conclusion

“Both active subwoofers SVS SB 2000 Pro and SVS PB 2000 Pro, SVS has once again made a big splash. For a price of around $700, both models offer first-class sound, extremely deep reproduction and plenty of level reserves. The two power packs can be combined with this Thanks to DSP and three equalizers as well as an excellent smartphone app, they can be optimally adapted to any listening room.”
