JBL record: 200 million headphones sold

Samsung-owned company Harman reported on the success of its JBL brand: the number of JBL headphones sold worldwide has exceeded 200,000,000 (two hundred million). According to Harman, such sales correspond to the title of the world’s leading developer, manufacturer, and seller of headphones.
Not only that, according to Harman, more JBL headphones were sold than Sony headphones in the second quarter of 2022—another reason why JBL should be considered the leading “headphone” audio brand. In this sense, only Apple is ahead of JBL, but Harman notes that Apple is not an audio brand, but an electronics manufacturer.
Pandemic-driven factors have driven headphone demand this decade: the rise of HD music streaming, the popularity of games and podcasts, telecommuting and work calls, as well as sports and the use of biometrics. Marketers predict that the headphone market will continue to grow at an average of 17.6% per year for at least another five years.
On the other hand, according to Harman, the key to record sales was JBL proprietary developments, like those used in the flagship JBL Tour PRO 2 headphones: immersive spatial sound, adaptive noise reduction, and Personi-fi 2.0 personalization. This model received a smart charging case with a 1.45-inch touchscreen and LED backlight.
Harman believes that headphones will be equipped with 3D rendering in the future, thanks to which the sound will mimic the reverberation of real rooms, and more accurate spatial audio will appear. All this promises new experiences, for example, gamers.
