The GMC Sierra full-size pickup started out as an expensive version of the Chevrolet C/K. In 1998, the latter was replaced by the Silverado, after which the Sierra became its technical “brother”, but, as before, with more status equipment.
In 2018, it was decided to slightly break family ties, or rather, to give the GMC version more external individuality. This difference has become even more noticeable in the current 2021, when both models have undergone restyling. As a result, GMC Sierra received completely original body parts and a completely new interior.
Overview
The 2022 GMC Sierra 6-meter pickup retained its spring suspension and frame structure, but outwardly began to look much more expensive than the Silverado. To the greatest extent, this is ensured by the presence of a luxurious chrome grille and optics made in the style of other GMC models (with dynamic “turn signals”).
The higher status of the model is successfully emphasized by the unique cargo platform, which is carbon fiber. This composite material is used not only for the interior lining of the open luggage compartment, but also for the main load-bearing elements: floor, walls and wheel arches. Here is an unusual tailgate, which has a separate folding section. Its purpose is to save space when loading in cramped conditions, plus an additional retractable step that makes it easier to get into the compartment.
Salon
In the cabin, a new front console, in which a horizontally oriented architecture appears instead of a vertical “tower”, went to all pickup truck trim levels, except for the initial one called Pro. Many physical controls are retained, but the instrument panel is digital (12.3″) and the media system screen is widescreen (13.4″).
As an option, a 15-inch projection on the windshield and a power steering column are offered. In expensive trim levels, the usual wide casing of the central tunnel with an automatic transmission control unit is used, and in cheaper ones, the first row can be triple. In this case, the gear lever moves to the steering column. Also, in the “top” equipment, the interior is decorated with wood veneer inserts, and outwardly, such a pickup truck receives an additional black decor.
Technical stuffing and characteristics
The 2022 GMC Sierra pickup engine line has been revised: the atmospheric “six” with a volume of 4.3 liters was excluded from it. The least powerful 314-horsepower 2.7-liter four-cylinder unit was modernized, simultaneously increasing its torque by 20% (569 Nm), plus the 8-speed automatic transmission that came with it was updated.
More powerful aspirated V8 remained the same – 5.3-liter with 360 hp. from. (519 Nm) and a 6.2-liter with 426 hp. from. (623 Nm). They also retained a 3.0-liter in-line diesel turbo six (281 hp, 623 Nm), but from now on this engine will be put on SUVs with a reinforced frame. This was done to increase the mass of the towed trailer (6 tons instead of the previous 4.2 tons.)
Prices and release date in Russia
GMC Sierra pickups are supplied to Russia only by unofficial dealers, who still offer pre-reform cars. The most affordable options are estimated at 3.9 million (from $51 thousand), while the buyer is promised to bring any modifications – with different cabins, engines and equipment levels.
Probably, in the near future, the “range” will also include cars of the 2022 model year, which are already officially sold in the United States. The cheapest pickup trucks with a single-row cab in the initial Pro version ($32,500) can be purchased there, and for a car in the maximum Denali Ultimate configuration in the States, they will ask for at least $80,000.
