Wagon Ferrari GTC4Lusso replaced the model FF
Banal approach to naming? This is not about the guys from Ferrari! In the name of each new model, a certain rebus is hidden. So the former Ferrari FF after a planned upgrade is called the GTC4Lusso. That’s right, no spaces. And if you read it in Italian, it turns out to be completely unpronounceable “jitichikvattrolusso”! Let’s try to decipher. GT is, of course, Gran Turismo. The letter “C”, according to the company’s tradition, means “coupe”, since the Italians no longer position the model as a shooting brake, that is, a three-door station wagon, which it essentially is. The four remained from the former name, only now it is written as a number, and does not hide, as before, behind the letter F (Four). Well, Lusso, still in the terminology of the late Enzo Ferrari, means “luxury”.
But this rebus does not reflect the main technical change: the car is now not only all-wheel drive, but also all-wheel drive! The 4RM all-wheel drive system, renamed 4RM-S, can turn the wheels of the rear axle at a small angle – almost like the limited version of the Ferrari F12tdf coupe released last fall. Together with the new version of the Side Slip Control (4.0), which includes an electronic simulated rear differential lock and SCM-E adaptive shock absorbers, this promises more confident behavior on slippery surfaces.
The aspirated V12 6.3 is the same, but the compression ratio is increased by 10% (from 12.3:1 to 13.5:1), due to which the return has increased to 690 hp. and 697 Nm – for 30 hp and 14 Nm more than the FF model. The maximum speed remains the same (335 km / h), but from zero to “hundreds” Ferrari GTC4Lusso accelerates three tenths faster than its predecessor – in 3.4 seconds.
Externally, the car is unmistakably recognizable, although almost all body panels have changed, and the rear optics have become “four-barreled”. And from the previous interior, there was no stone left unturned: the car has new seats and door upholstery, a different architecture of the center console and front panel – up to the new location of the ventilation deflectors. In the center of the panel is a new 10.25-inch touchscreen display, and the front passenger now has his own touchscreen – the Italians call this innovation the “double cockpit concept”.
The first show of the Ferrari GTC4Lusso will take place in early March at the Geneva Motor Show. The company has yet to announce pricing or a start date for sales. However, the price is unlikely to be much higher than the FF, and a delay in the appearance of cars at dealers is unlikely. After all, sales of twelve-cylinder Ferraris (models FF and F12berlinetta) fell by a quarter last year, although overall demand for cars from Maranello rose by 6%, setting a new record – 7664 units. Therefore, it is not surprising that after the FF coupe, a serious update will overtake the “younger” rear-wheel drive model F12berlinetta.
