Epson EH-TW610 and Epson EH-TW65: a new line of budget projectors

Almost simultaneously with the release of the new 5000 series projectors,  Epson EH-TW610  and  Epson EH-TW650 projectors appeared in the Epson range , which  once again  lowered the price bar for home full HD devices.

ow exactly was it reduced? Judge for yourself:

Epson EH-TW610 – $820

Epson EH-TW650 – $ 880  (will be sold in large federal networks)

That’s it. Now  Epson’s most budgetary full HD projectors  for home theater are not “five thousand”, but  “six hundred” .

The Epson EH-TW610 and Epson EH-TW650 models are almost identical, and in terms of performance they are analogous to the already well-known Epson EH-TW5200, but without 3D support ( because,  suddenly , it turned out that 3D is completely unnecessary for the vast majority of projector buyers ) .

Next – a few words about why they are so good.

They are shorter focus

These projectors are very convenient for desktop installation on a temporary basis due to  shorter throw than the Epson EH-TW5400 optics. It projects an image with a diagonal of 100 inches (width 221 cm) from a distance of 227 cm ( calculator here ).

Fast keystone correction (automatic vertically and a special horizontal slider) allows you to almost instantly set the projector to the left / right and above / below the optimal position relative to the screen.

Compared to the same Epson EH-TW5400, both new items – Epson EH-TW610 and Epson EH-TW650 are more universal  home projectors  and less specialized home theater projectors, although many of the parameters that “make” from universal home projector and vice versa – that’s still “taste”. It is difficult to define a clear line between these niches and is fraught with heated debates of experts of all stripes.

These models have a built-in Wi-Fi projection function, but it is similar to that used by office projectors and is not suitable for high-definition video transmission.

They are brighter

Yes, oddly enough, despite the lower price, the new projectors are half as bright as the same Epson EH-TW5200: 3000 versus 2000 lumens. What does it give? Of course – greater versatility, compared with the “traditional” projector for the recreation center, because the brightness of 3000 lm is enough for projection even in a well-lit room. It can be both a living room and a home theater itself, but with the lights on, when, for example, you want to watch a sports program, stream on Twitch or play something colorful and bright, such as Horizon: Zero Dawn or Rachet & Clank, for example.

It is reasonable that with an increase in brightness, the standard light, in which the projector “thumps” with a maximum brightness of more than 3000 lm versus 2000 lm for the Epson EH-TW5200, will drop the light fairly quicker. Although not much

But with the  eco mode is  much more interesting.

When switching to this mode, the projector actually turns into an Epson EH-TW5200, because its brightness decreases … Just about 2000 lm!

Those. not only are the new projectors cheaper  in themselves , but you can forget about replacing the lamp in them even longer than before at the same brightness that the previous “folk” five-thousander gave.

The projectors of the “six hundredth” series have a function to improve image clarity. This, of course, is not about the standard “sharpness” setting that any TV has, but about the same thing that the most expensive Epson projectors could boast of just recently – this function was called “Super Resolution”. When viewing any content with high detail, whether it is photos, colorful art or movies in 1080p and at a high bit rate, you can adjust the Image Enhancement menu, and the picture from the projector will look clearer and more legible.
