Keanu Reeves’ ‘Konstantine 2’ movie seems to have been canceled

John Constantine has no place in the new DC Universe.

Rumor has it that DC Studios has canceled Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2. Studio heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are said to be reluctant to include the 2005 sequel Constantine: The Dark Lord in the DCEU.

In September 2022, it became known that Keanu Reeves will return to the role of exorcist and medium John Constantine in the continuation of the cult “Constantine: Lord of Darkness”. The film was to be directed by the director of the first part, Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend”). It seems that fans still will not see the new adventures of Constantine performed by Reeves.

According to Comic Book Movie, insider KC Walsh claims that Warner Bros. will not remove “Konstantin 2”. According to him, the studio launched a sequel into development at a time when it was not sure about the future of the DCEU. The revival of a longtime franchise could help improve DC’s fortunes:

“It was a film that they greenlit in a moment of desperation. They weren’t sure about the future of DC, they needed to release something after 2023.”

The heads of DC Studios James Gunn and Peter Safran presented the first chapter of the new DC Universe “Gods and Monsters” at the end of January 2023. They will develop the world of superheroes in two directions. The action of most projects will unfold in the main reality of the DC Universe. Some films and series will become part of the “Other Worlds” series about alternative dimensions – this cycle includes the “Batman” trilogy by Matt Reeves and the “Joker” duology by Todd Phillips.

Constantine 2 was announced before the formation of DC Studios. The film ended up not being included in the “Gods and Monsters” chapter. Maybe Gunn and Safran are planning to introduce a new Constantine into the DCEU.
